Sharing the Truth Is Not a Calling
I would like to talk to you about an important topic: the importance of truth and having a love for the truth. Jesus said,
"For this I have been born, and for this I have come into the world, to BEAR WITNESS TO THE TRUTH. Everyone who is of the truth HEARS MY VOICE.'" (John 18:37)
Jesus said "Everyone who is of the truth hears My voice." What does that mean? It means a person who wants to walk in the truth is not tuned into what other's think or feel or think or feel about them; it means that a person's only concern is not to be be liked or accepted, but what is true and upholding what is true. Jesus flat out said in this passage that only those who are seeking the truth are of Him: "Everyone who is of the truth hears My voice." When we aren't seeking God's truth, but are more concerned about what other's think of us, we cannot do anything else but demonize those who are walking in the truth in order to justify ourselves.
"And this is the judgment, that the light is come into the world, and men loved the darkness rather than the light; for their deeds were evil. For everyone who does evil hates the light, and does not come to the light, lest his deeds should be exposed. But he who practices the truth comes to the light, that his deeds may be manifested as having been wrought in God." (John 3:19-21)
To walk in the light is to walk in the truth. When we don't walk in the truth we will automatically avoid those who are walking in truth or do what we can to find fault with them to justify our falsehood.
"He who is not with Me is against Me; and he who does not gather with Me scatters." (Matthew 12:30)
We are with Jesus when we are not seeking the approval of others, but when we are seeking the truth and upholding what is true. When you upheld the truth before others, then and only then are you with Jesus and hearing His voice.
John, do you want to love others? The only time you are loving others is not when they like you. Jesus said "Woe to you when all men speak well of you, for in the same way their fathers used to treat the false prophets" (Luke 6:26). The only time you are loving others is when you are upholding the truth. You were loving your parents when you quoted to them Matthew 12:30-32. You were loving your Christian fellow students when you tried to get them to go out and share Jesus with others, to share what is true with others. Sharing the truth is not a calling, it is the most loving thing you can do. The only time we are a servant of Jesus and representing Him is when we are upholding what is true. The Gospel is absolute truth! "Whoever is of the truth hears my voice." When you are not walking in the truth you open a doorway to the enemy Satan. Jesus said,
"If God were your Father, you would love Me; for I proceeded forth and have come from God, for I have not even come on My own initiative, but He sent Me. Why do you not understand what I am saying? It is because you cannot hear My word. You are of your father the devil, and you want to do the desires of your father. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. Whenever he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own nature; for he is a liar, and the father of it." (John 8:42-44)
Note that Jesus equates falsehood with murder. Only when we are walking in the truth are we walking in love. We are not walking in love when our only focus is to be accepted. We are not to intentionally offend men. Paul wrote "But speaking the truth in love" (Eph 4:15). We are to the best of our ability to speak the truth in love, but we are to speak the truth, and only when we are speaking and upholding the truth are we walking in love and loving others, regardless of their response or actions. When we don't focus on and uphold the truth, we become Jesus' enemies and the enemies of His servants who are upholding what is true. Why? Because through our lie we destroy the truth and the reputation of those who are upholding what is true and in essence kill them. This is because through our lie we hinder other's from receiving through them what is true. The false witness of others led to Jesus being nailed to the cross.
"A false witness will perish, but the man who listens to the truth will speak forever." (Proverbs 21:28)
The Lord is ministering to you today that you need to have a deeper desire and love for the truth. That is why the Bible commands us that we are to love God above all else with all our heart, soul, mind and strength. There is no untruth in Jesus. When we love Him above all else, we then love others because to love God is to love what is true and walk in the truth because there is no untruth in God.
Joshua 21:45 "Not one of the good promises which Yehovah had made to the house of Israel failed; all came to pass."
Numbers 23:19 "Elohim is not a man, that He should lie, nor a son of man, that He should repent; has He said, and will He not do it? Or has He spoken, and will He not make it good?"
Hebrews 6:18 "It is impossible for God to lie."
Titus 1:2 "In the hope of eternal life, which God, who cannot lie, promised long ages ago."
God cannot lie, therefore there is no untruth in Him; thus to love God above all else is to love truth above all else; or to say it another way to love truth above all else is to love God above all else. Jesus said ""Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words shall not pass away" (Matthew 24:35), "Sanctify them in the truth, Your word is truth" (John 17:17). Therefore to love God above all else is to love, study and know His Word above all else because there is no untruth in the Bible. That is why to be a servant of God is to make studying His word cover to cover a first priority because God will never act contrary to His word which is the truth, and only through a thorough knowledge of His word can we know what is true, what is truly of God, what is of the truth and what is a lie. This is what Jesus meant when he said "For this I have been born, and for this I have come into the world, to BEAR WITNESS TO THE TRUTH. Everyone who is of the truth HEARS MY VOICE'" (John 18:37). To base what we do on what God's word teaches is to hear Jesus' voice, to be of the truth, to be of Him.
When what others think of us becomes more important than what is true, we are no longer walking in the truth or loving what is true, we are loving the approval of others. That is love perverted. Jesus said in response "Woe to you when all men speak well of you, for in the same way their fathers used to treat the false prophets" (Luke 6:26). When truth is not more important to us than what others think of us or our success, we become a false prophets, a stumbling block to others, a liar, of the father of lies-the devil.
We need to pray and Ask God to give us a deep love for the truth, a love so strong, that not even our life is more important. Jesus said "Greater love has no one than this, that one lay down his soul for his friends" (John 15:13). Do you not understand why Jesus was crucified? He was crucified, sent to death, by whom? The religious leaders and politicians of his day. Why? Because he would not compromise nor turn back from the truth. It resulted in his losing his life, but it also resulted in our salvation. Our salvation was bought at the cost of the truth. Only when we uphold the truth do we save others. "There is a way which seems right to a man, but its end is the way of death." (Prov 14:12, 16:25). To love truth above all else you must forsake all else, even yourself. Jesus said,
"He who loves father or mother more than Me is not worthy of Me; and he who loves sons or daughter more than Me is not worthy of Me. And he who does not take his cross and follow after Me is not worthy of Me. He who has found his soul shall lose it, and he who has lost his soul for My sake shall find it." (Matthew 10:37-39)
You see Jesus is about what is true. When we don't love Him above all else, we don't love truth above all else. This is why then we would not be worthy of Him because he is of the truth; and a lie cannot stand the truth. Why do men reject Jesus? Because they love a lie more than the truth.
Sincerely in Jesus,
Dale P. Kruse
