"Your Word Is Truth"
I am seeking the Lord right now for the next year, His will and agenda for me, what He needs me to accomplish in the next year. As I am it is coming to me that I need to encourage you to focus on God's word, to read completely through the Bible, to be concerned with getting a complete overview of the Bible first, rather than understanding. Have a time to just read through the Bible, have a time to read for understanding. The importance of a complete overview is because the Holy Spirit can't quicken the word to you if you don't know what is in the word. This he did with me this past week in wanting me to show you passages from Genesis to Revelation which illustrated the strong discipline of the Lord when needed. Satan doesn't want you in God's word. He knows that faith comes from hearing and from hearing the word of God (Romans 10:17). Satan knows that knowing God's will and voice, true discernment comes through a thorough knowledge of the word of God (Isaiah 8:19-20). Satan doesn't want you to know God's will, he doesn't want you to discern what is truly God's voice. He wants you to keep thinking your hearing God's voice when it is Satan's voice. Look at the battle we had with this sister. Why? Because she depends on visions and dreams and not on what God's word says, so we lost the battle with her. She depended on what people said to her was true rather than what God's word said to her was true.
"Thus says Yehovah, `Cursed is the man who trusts in mankind and makes flesh his arm, And whose heart turns away from Yehovah. For he will be like a bush in the desert and will not see when prosperity comes, but will live in stony wastes in the wilderness, a land of salt without inhabitant.'" (Jeremiah 17:5-6)
"Thus I shall spend My wrath on the wall and on those who have plastered it over with whitewash; and I shall say to you, ‘The wall is gone and its plasterers are gone, along with the prophets of Israel who prophesy to Jerusalem, and seers of visions of peace for her when there is no peace,’ declares Adonai-Yehovah. Now you, son of man, set your-face against the daughters of your people who are prophesying from their-own-heart prophesy against them." (Ezekiel 13:15-17)
"And her prophets have smeared whitewash for them, seeing false visions and divining lies for them, saying, ‘Thus says Adonai-Yehovah,’ when Yehovah has not spoken." (Ezekiel 22:28)
"And when they say to you, ‘Consult the mediums and the spiritists who whisper and mutter,’ should not a people consult their God? Should they consult the dead on behalf of the living? To the law and to the testimony! If they do not speak according to this word, it is because they have no dawn." (Isaiah 8:19-20)
When are we trusting in God? Jesus said in John 8:47 "He who is of God hears the words of God," not the words of men. We are trusting in God when what we do is based on and backed by His word. What does God say about those who trust in Him?
"Blessed is the man who trusts in Yehovah And whose trust is Yehovah. For he will be like a tree planted by the water, that extends its roots by a stream and will not fear when the heat comes; but its leaves will be green, and it will not be anxious in a year of drought nor cease to yield fruit." (Jeremiah 17:7-8)
We are trusting in God when what we do is based on the revelation of His Word. God's word is true and final authority, not visions and dreams. Jesus said in John 17:17 "Sanctify them in the truth, Your Word is truth."
We are following God's voice when what we are doing is in complete harmony with His word. What we think is God's voice, if it is contrary to God's word is not from God but from Satan. Paul wrote in 2 Corinthians 11:14 "And no wonder for Satan transforms himself into an angel of light." How do we know what is truly the Holy Spirit and what is an evil spirit talking to us? By asking ourselves if what we believe is the Lord's leading is in agreement with God's written word. You want to know why Satan is attacking you while reading the Bible? That is why! Satan doesn't want you to know what is true, what is truly God's voice. He doesn't want you to build a ministry based on the truths of God's word, he wants you to build a ministry on his leading. He will say to you "You don't need the word, you just need to listen to the Holy Spirit". How do you know what is the Holy Spirit and what is not? Does it line up with God's word? If it does not, it is not the Holy Spirit, it is an unclean spirit, a messenger of Satan to deceive and bring you down.
I heard the testimony of an Indian Evangelist (the country of India) who was raised in the Hindu religion. He shared how one day in class as a boy the teacher made an idol and then asked the class to bow down and worship it. He spoke up and said to the teacher "You made the idol, it should bow down and worship you!"
"Their land has also been filled with idols; they worship the work of their-hands, That which their-fingers have made." (Isaiah 2:8)
"Half of it he burns in the fire; over this half he eats meat as he roasts a roast, and is satisfied. He also warms himself and says, ‘Aha! I am warm, I have seen the fire.’ But the rest of it he makes into a god, his graven image. He falls down before it and worships; he also prays to it and says, ‘Deliver me, for you are my God.’ They do not know, nor do they understand, for He has smeared over their-eyes so that they cannot see and their-hearts so that they cannot comprehend. And no one recalls, nor is there knowledge or understanding to say, ‘I have burned half of it in the fire, and also have baked bread over its coals. I roast meat and eat it. Then I make the rest of it into an abomination, I fall down before a block of wood!’" (Isaiah 44:16-19)
As a result he was thrown out of class and exiled from the community. Eventually he got a job shepherding some cattle. One day while shepherding he became fascinated with his thumb. He wanted to know who the God was that created his thumb. He cried out, "Who are you God who created the thumb?" A voice in the heavens spoke to him and told him to go to a certain city, that a man would meet him there and give him his answer. He went to this city. The man he met was a Christian missionary. The Christian missionary led the Indian man to Christ. "All things came into being by Him, and apart from Him nothing came into being that has come into being" (John 1:3). The Indian got his answer.
Then God sent an angel to him and told him to go to this cave and handed him a Bible and told him to read it five times, that he was not to leave that cave until he read it five times through. You see God was getting ready to use him to bring his fellow country men to Christ; but the Lord's first agenda for him was for him to study and read God's word completely through, to become completely familiar with the word of God first. How many times? Five times. God wouldn't even let him go out and witness until he read completely through the Bible five times. You see John, we are no match for the cunning and deception of the enemy. Satan comes to steal, kill and destroy. How then do we overcome him? How do we discern his tricks? Only one way: Through a thorough knowledge of the word of God. Jesus said in John 17:17 "Sanctify them in the truth, Your word is truth." That is why you are under attack every time you go to read the word of God. Satan knows the better you know the word, the better you are going to be able to discern the truth and God's voice and what is not true and what is not God's voice. When that happens Satan knows that nothing he tries to deceive you with will work. That is why studying and reading through the Bible not once, but several times is so important. The Holy Spirit cannot lead you to and confirm what is truly His voice to you if You do not know who God is.
How do we come to know who God is? God says in His word in Psalm 138:2 "You have magnified Your Word according to all Your name." What is the importance of a name? A name describes the character of a person, at least that is the way it used to be. John Smith, "Smith" he was a black smith. God says about the Bible that it is equal with His name, His character. Who is God? What is His character? Answer: The Word of God! Jesus said "He who is of God hears the words of God." But He also said that if what we do is not according to His Word, we are not of Him. "For this reason you do not hear them because you are not of God" (John 8:47). Jesus said only those who do what they do based on His Word are of him, no one else. God says the Bible is His character, it is who He is and what He does and how HE responds to sin and how HE deals with murderers and injustice and how HE has dealt with our sins and how HE views false accusers and slanders, etcetera. You want to know what God's mind is about a matter? What does His word say on it? That is God's mind on the matter, His will, nothing else.
"And also The-Glory-of-Israel will not lie or change His mind; for He is not a man that He should change His mind." (1 Samuel 15:29)
"My covenant I will not violate, nor will I alter the utterance of My lips." (Psalm 89:34)
"For I, Yehovah, do not change." (Malachi 3:6)
"Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words shall not pass away." (Matthew 24:35)
"Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today, and forever." (Hebrews 13:8)
God, Jesus, tells us that He is the same yesterday, today and forever. What is the same yesterday, today and forever? Jesus said in Matthew 24:35 "Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words shall not pass away." His word will not pass away because the Bible, His Word is who He is His character and God says "For I, Yehovah, do not change." He says "I am `the same yesterday and today, and forever.'" The reason why the Bible will remain forever is because it is God's character and God's character never changes. So our first priority as servants of God is to study, eat and memorize the Bible from cover to cover, over and over as many times as is necessary until there is no facet of the word of God we are not familiar with, with which the Holy Spirit can quicken it to us so we will know what is truly His voice so we will know what is truly his leading in our lives.
The Bible says "There is a way which seems right to a man, but its end is the way of death" (Proverbs 14:12, 16:25). How important is it that we study God's word thoroughly through and not allow Satan to divert us away from this most important endeavor, commitment, and task no matter how strongly he comes against us in accomplishing it? It is so important that if we don't have a full command of the word of God, not only can we error, but it can even cost someone's life if we are wrong in the battle of the souls of men. Paul wrote in 1 Timothy 4:16 "Pay close attention to yourself and to your teaching; persevere in these things; for as you do this you will insure salvation both for yourself and for those who hear you." How can we assure someone of their salvation, what salvation is, how to attain that salvation? Where do we get this information? This knowledge? Only one place: the Bible!!! "All Scripture is give-by-inspiration-of-God and is profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work" (2 Tim 3:16-17).
John, this is why the enemy is fighting you so hard when you try to read the word of God. He doesn't want you to know what is true, he doesn't want you to lead people to the true Jesus and what is true, he doesn't want you to assure people's salvation in Christ based on what is true. What is true? Only, only, only what is in God's word. Anything contrary to this will not lead to salvation, it will lead to death. "There is a way which seems right to a man, but its end is the way of death" (Prov 14:12, 16:25). So this is why you can't give into this battle, why you cannot allow Satan to win, why you must fight Satan to the end, until you have read the Bible through thoroughly at least 3 times, God advises 5 times. I encourage you to listen to God's advice! The angel told the man five times. I think you should listen to God's advice. Then of course continue your daily feeding on the Word in Your quiet time with the Lord while you wait upon Him.
"This book of the law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it; for then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have success." (Joshua 1:8)
God says in His word only those who daily meditate on His word will prosper and succeed.
"Let the word of Christ richly dwell within you, with all wisdom teaching and admonishing one another with psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with thankfulness in your hearts to God." (Colossians 3:16)
"For the word of God is spiritually-alive and energetically-effective and sharper than any two-edged sword, and piercing as far as the division of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and able to judge the conscious-reasonings and intentions of the heart." (Hebrews 4:12)
Sincerely in Jesus,
