Jesus Has a
Soul-Life for You

August 17, 2000

Re: Jesus has a SOUL LIFE for you

Hi John:

Matthew 16:24-26 states,

"Then Jesus said to His disciples, ‘If anyone wishes to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me. For whoever wishes to save his soul shall lose it; but whoever loses his soul for My sake shall find it. For what will a man be profited, if he gains the whole world, and forfeits his soul? Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul?’" (Matthew 16:24-26)

John, when Jesus created you, He created you with a soul-life in mind. This is true of every one of us. However, Jesus created us with a free will to choose the path we want to walk. However, the soul life He has for you cannot even begin to be implemented if there is just a little of the soul life you want still there. You are going through death to self and you are not finding it pleasant, but things will get better. Just a little of the soul life we want to have completely corrupts and brings to a halt the soul life Jesus wants us to have. The only way we can have the soul life Jesus wants for us is through complete death to self and through complete and total surrender to and obedience to Jesus. There is no other way.

John, it has always been a wonder to me over the years as I have chosen to surrender to Jesus and His will for my life that often I could not understand what He was doing in my life, but I would in faith continue to surrender to Him and obey Him even though I did not understand. But as time would go by, even years of time, suddenly one day Jesus would say to me "Dale, I want you to write a textbook on Evangelism and interrelate the conservative, evangelical, charismatic biblical streams of Christianity in it." Suddenly all that the Lord had been doing in me for several years  came together and I would say over and over "Oh! That is what you were doing!" People are amazed when they read my books. I am amazed when I read my books.

Well what am I saying? Am I saying if you surrender to and obey Jesus you will write books? No, but you will come to be who God created you to be and accomplish what it is God wants you to accomplish and when you get there you will look back in amazement of what Jesus has accomplished in your life. You will also find a fulfillment in life no self-rule can accomplish. John, I do not have everything I wanted in life, but I am happy and I am fulfilled. My life has complete meaning and purpose. I wouldn’t go back to self-rule for all the money in the world.

Only through surrender to Jesus can you come to your full potential. Only through surrender to Jesus can you come to know who you are and why Jesus created you. To surrender your soul, to die to self, doesn’t mean that you become an empty zombie. No, it means you allow Jesus to give you the soul-life He created you to have; and there is only one way you can have that soul life Jesus wants you to have: through 100% total surrender to Jesus and through 100% and total death to self. It can’t be a little death to self as you learned from the book of Joshua (See How to Have Success in Spiritual Warfare under Spiritual warfare), it has to be complete and total surrender.

Through complete surrender to God, Israel entered into the promised land He had for them and became the greatest nation on the earth at the time until they turned away from God and made self god again. This eventually led to their complete destitution and their being dispersed throughout the earth for 2,500 years until May 14, 1948. Even now because they do not turn to Jesus, the King of kings, they struggle for their existence as a nation.

John, Jesus will not force you to have the soul life he has for you, only you can make that decision and only you through the battle of your will against yourself can keep the old-self down so Jesus can implement that soul life He has for you. Surrender to Jesus never means you are no longer in control of your life. Paul said "I die daily." He meant that every morning he got up, just as I do, and said, "Jesus, I surrender my soul life to you today so you can implement the soul-life in my life You want me to have." This is why having a daily quiet time is so necessary. We can’t live on yesterdays surrender, we must daily surrender to and line ourselves up with Jesus and the will and plan he has for us today if the soul life He has for us is to be implement and completely fulfilled. That is why my first prayer in my Quiet Time is the following:

"Heavenly Father in the name and the shed blood of Jesus Christ I want You as Lord and Master over me, I want the will and plan that You have for my life.  Please minister to me that will and that plan; and then please grant me the power of Your Holy Spirit to apply and carry out that will in Jesus' name.

What a wonder that we must daily choose to serve Jesus. There is an unfortunate side to this you need to know and understand. God speaking through Ezekiel states the following,

"But when a righteous man turns away from his righteousness, commits iniquity, and does according to all the abominations that a wicked man does, will he live? All his righteous deeds which he has done will not be remembered for his treachery which he has committed and his sin which he has committed; for them he will die." (Ezekiel 18:24)

John, God tells us in this passage that if you live for God, lets say, for five years, then you decide you want the soul life you want, not His; it doesn’t matter, all the good that you did will not be remembered and you will not be rewarded for it. This means that if you are going to live for Jesus, your decision to die to self and surrender to the soul-life Jesus has for you must be a once and for all permanent decision, otherwise you will have no reward from Him when you die. It means you can’t live for him for a little while and then go back to your ways. John this means in the past year that when you turned away from Jesus as Lord and did not obey him, none of the good you did do before that will be accounted to you. Only the good that you are doing through your obedience to Jesus (what I mean by good, and in God’s economy is the only good) since you resurrendered yourself to him is applied to your account in heaven and will be rewarded and then only if you continue in obedience to him until you die. You see, your past good would not keep you from going to hell if you turn away from the Lord. What a sobering thought!

So John, you cannot go back and forth. The decision to die to self and live for Jesus and for only the soul life He has for you, no matter what the cost is to your plans and your desires, to the lost of specific relationships or not, must be a once and for all permanent decision if you are to enter into the soul life Jesus has for you and if you are to receive a full reward in heaven. It must be a once and for all life time decision which means that you then must daily maintain that, do what is necessary to your flesh to maintain that until the day you die if you are to receive the reward and eternal life Jesus has for you on earth as well as in heaven.

"Watch yourselves, that you might not lose what we have accomplished, but that you may receive a full reward." (2 John 1-8)

"Then Jesus said to His disciples, ‘f anyone wishes to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me. For whoever wishes to save his soul shall lose it; but whoever loses his soul for My sake shall find it. For what will a man be profited, if he gains the whole world, and forfeits his soul? Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul? For the Son of Man is going to come in the glory of His Father with His angels; and will then recompense every man according to his deeds.’" (Matthew 16:24-27)
