Why Genesis & Evolution
Are Not Compatible

Study Questions

Hebrews Chapter 11 and verse 3 states, "By faith we understand that the ages were prepared by the word of God, so that what is seen was not made out of things which are visible." The Bible teaches us that what is taught in the first three Chapters of the Book of Genesis must be taken literally and must be accepted by faith. God does not ask us to accept this by faith, though, without proof or verification. He gave us absolute proof that what Moses recorded in the first three Chapters of Genesis is absolutely historically true. What is this absolute proof? His bringing Jesus Christ back from the dead Physical Alive!

When Jesus was asked what His proof to His claims were: that He was the Creator of the Heavens and the Earth, that what Moses recorded was absolutely true truth, that He was God in the flesh and that through Him and Him alone could we be saved and go to Heaven, He said to his inquirers in response:

". . . no sign shall be given to it [our generation] but the sign of Jonah the prophet; for just as Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of the large-fish, so shall the Son of Man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth." (Matt 12:39-40)

Jesus, in this passage, tells us that His Physical Resurrection from the dead is all the proof we need. Why? It proves, first, that there is life after death, a Heaven and a Hell. How do we know? Because Jesus came back from the dead to prove to us that it is true. Second, it proves that Jesus is God in the flesh, our Creator who holds the keys to Heaven or Hell. How do we know? Because He proved it by recreating His

own human body Physically Alive! from the dead, thus proving that He is the Lord, Creator and sustainer of life. Note here also that He created life instantaneously, not over billions of years of time through the chance collision of molecules. Third, His Physical Resurrection from the dead proves that all that He said and all that Moses wrote is absolutely true truth and therefore that the book of Genesis is true truth. How do we know? Because He came back Physically from the dead to prove to us it is true.

It is impossible for scientists to prove or demonstrate how the universe was created and came into existence through scientific investigation. This is because these are historical events man is not able to observe or reproduce in a laboratory. This is why God revealed it to us supernaturally and had Moses record it in the book of Genesis. It is also why God became a man Himself, to prove through His humanity, death and resurrection that we could without fear or wavering believe what He had his servant Moses record about Creation as being true. Jesusí Physical Resurrection is the only proof we have and can have to prove that what the book of Genesis tells us is absolutely true. In the day of judgment, Jesus tells us that His Physical Resurrection is all the proof and evidence that will be presented to us. He will not give us any other sign or evidence.

If this is true, then why do men spend their lives trying to prove it is false and support what even the true facts of science show us is not true: Naturalistic Evolution? They teach, support and close their hearts to the Bible and any evidence of science supporting Creation because to acknowledge it requires them to acknowledge Jesus Christ as Lord. It is a Lordship issue, not a scientific issue. Because they do not want

Jesus to reign over them as Lord, therefore they must come up with a naturalistic explanation of how the known universe and man came into existence which is also why they ignore evidence to the contrary though it stares them in the face.

By doing so they can justify what they do with science and man. If the universe came into being through naturalistic processes and life through chance formation of atoms and molecules, then there are no moral absolutes by which man is accountable to, there is no right or wrong. If this is true then science may do what they want with science.

What are the fruits and consequences of this kind of philosophy and thinking? If man is not created by God and in His image, the explanation of manís existence is no more than the explanation of the existence of a rock and therefore man has no more importance or value than a rock. Not only that, but he is no more important than a plant or an animal or a machine. The end result is that manís value as man as taught by the Bible, which is that he was created in God's image and therefore of highest value and of first importance over all of the rest of creation, disappears. This then means that making the life of a rat more important than the livelihood of a farmer, or the life of a whale more important than the life of a baby in the womb is neither right nor wrong. This is why today we cannot bring restraint against Abortion and euthanasia because we have done away with that which made human life of greatest value, the teaching of Genesis, and as a result have no restraint against anything which man chooses to do for his own convenience. This is what happens to man when we do not subject ourselves to Godís revelation in the Book of Genesis: manís value as man becomes no more valuable than the rock in your garden that you toss away. This is why taking the book of Genesis literally is not an option. Any other view leads to the devaluing of man and his eventual total destruction by man.

Again when we say there is no alternative but to take Genesis literally, we do not mean this as a philosophical or theological convenience so we will have a higher value of ourselves. There is no alternative because Jesus gave us absolute proof that what Moses taught in the book of Genesis is absolutely true when He came back Physically Alive! from the dead.

Why the teachings of Genesis and Evolution are not compatible: Genesis teaches that Jesus created the known universe instantly in six literal twenty-four hour solar days. Evolution teaches that all that exists came into being through the chance collision of atoms and molecules over billions of years of time. Genesis teaches that Jesusí creation of the Universe is complete. Evolution teaches that the evolution of life is a continuous ongoing process. Genesis teaches that the oceans existed before dry land existed. Evolution teaches that the dry land existed before the oceans existed. Genesis teaches that Jesus first created life on the dry land and then created the life in the oceans. Evolution teaches that life started in the ocean and eventually evolved onto the dry land. Genesis teaches that plant life was created by Jesus first. Evolution teaches that marine life evolved first. Genesis teaches that Jesus first created the earth and that the sun and the universe were created later. Evolution teaches that the sun existed first and that the earth evolved later. Genesis teaches that fruit trees were created before the fish. Evolution teaches that fish evolved before fruit trees. Genesis teaches that Jesus created the fish and the birds at the same time. Evolution teaches that fish evolved millions of years before bird life evolved. Genesis teaches that Jesus created birds before insects. Evolution teaches that insects evolved before birds. Genesis teaches that Jesus created whales before reptiles. Evolution teaches that reptiles evolved before whales. Genesis teaches that Jesus created birds before reptiles. Evolution teaches that reptiles evolved before birds. Genesis teaches that Jesus created man before rain. Evolution teaches rain existed before man. Genesis teaches that Jesus created the male before the female. Evolution teaches that the female evolved before the male. Genesis teaches that Jesus created light before the Sun. Evolution teaches that the sun evolved before any light. Genesis teaches that Jesus created the plants before the sun. Evolution teaches that the Sun evolved before plant life on earth evolved. Genesis teaches that Jesus created man a spirit, soul and body, and his body instantly from the dust of the ground. Evolution teaches that man evolved from monkeys without a spirit or a soul. Genesis teaches that Jesus created all life after its kind meaning they are fixed within their species, they cannot cross over and do not cross over to other kinds of animal life. Evolution teaches that all life evolved from the simplest cell life. Genesis teaches that Jesus created man in His image and according to His likeness which means that man was created with the moral righteousness of God ruling over man through his human spirit. It also means that Jesus gave man dominion over all the earth to rule over all of life. Evolution teaches that most life forms were extinct before man evolved as man. Evolution also teaches the survival of the fittest. Genesis teaches that man is superior to all other life forms. Genesis teaches that before the flood Jesus instructed man to eat plant life only. It was only after the flood that Jesus also instructed man to eat animal flesh as well. Evolution teaches that man started off as a meat eater. Finally, Genesis teaches that when Jesus created man and all other life forms on the earth it was that they were to live forever, that there was no death; that death came into the world as a result of manís sin, not part of Jesusí intended plan of Creation. Evolution teaches that death existed long before man existed, that death has always been a part of animal and plant life.

Because of the flood of the so called facts of evolution in the various sciences and disciplines, this has led to an over sensitivity among Evangelical scholars who have sought to try and harmonize the teaching of Genesis with Evolution. This attempt of harmonization of Scripture with Evolution has led to many different theories about Creation. The most popular theory is the Old Earth-Young Adam theory. They teach the earth is old with its fossil evidence but that the evolution of man is a recent historical event. They teach that the human fossils that are dated earlier than the Neolithic (the New Stone age, starting at about 10,000 y.a.) represent "pre-Adamites" who may or may not have been human in the biblical sense of the term.375/234

No matter what theory of creation one has, if it is not based on Genesis as it stands and at face value, crumbles and falls to the ground in the light of the total context of Scripture. Problems which arise are the following: the Bible teaches that before Adam and Eve sinned there was no death in the world, that death came about as a result of Adam and Eveís sin and rebellion against God. Paul the Apostle wrote, "Therefore, just as through one man sin entered into the world, and death through sin" (Rom 5:12). The Old Earth-Young Adam theory teaches that death was a natural part of nature before Adam came into being and continued after Adam. This teaching also contradicts the Bibleís teaching that Eve is the mother of all living humans.

It was because of Adam and Eveís sin, that introduced death into the world, that God told them that through the seed of the woman, the virgin birth since the seed always comes from man, He would send Jesus Christ to die for manís sin so that the enemy, death, would be abolished. The Apostle Paul wrote, "For the wages of sin is death" (Rom 6:23), "But now. . . by the appearing of our Savior Christ Jesus, who abolished death, and brought life and immortality to light through the Gospel" (2 Tim 1:10). The whole purpose of Jesusí coming, death and resurrection were for the purpose of nullifying sinís effect of death over man and creation, to reverse the process and bring creation back to its original place of immortality. This is absolutely incompatible with the teaching of Evolution which teaches that death has always been a part of nature, that death is normal. The Bible teaches that death is not normal and thus why God sent Jesus to reverse sinís effect on the world. Concerning this Paul wrote,

"In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet; for the trumpet will sound and the dead will be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed. For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality. But when this corruptible will have put on the incorruptible, and this mortal will have put on immortality, then will come about the saying that is written, 'Death is swallowed up in victory. O death, where is your victory? O death, where is your sting?' The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law; But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ." (1 Cor 15:52-57)

Evolution teaches that because all life evolved by chance through the chance collision of atoms and molecules, what man is today he has always been. Sin, death, evil and good have always been a part of manís existence. He is in no need of redemption. This is completely incompatible with the Book of Genesis which teaches that God created man in His image and according to His likeness which meant that the moral righteousness of God in the beginning ruled over manís nature through his human spirit, that in the beginning there was no sin in the world. Because manís spirit died, his link with God died, so did the means of sustaining manís life both physically and spiritually die. This is why God warned Adam and Eve in Genesis 2:17: "But-from the tree of the-knowledge of good and evil from it you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat from it dying, you shall die." The Apostle Paul tells us in 1 Timothy 6:14-16 that Jesus, God, "alone possesses immortality." Only as we join ourselves to Him do we then possess physical and spiritual immortality through Him, but not apart from Him, because only He posses immortality. When Adam and Eve sinned, they were severed from their source of immortality: Jesus. The end result was then, as it is now, that man and all of creation began the slow process of decay and death. Jesus reversed all this by abolishing the enemy death! through His death on the cross and thus providing us away back to him and back to life and immortality. The Apostle Paul wrote: "who abolished death, and brought life and immortality to light through the Gospel" (2 Tim 1:10).

Genesis further teaches that when Adam and Eve sinned, their spirit died and man came into bondage to their soul: their intellect and feelings, and their flesh: their appetites and desires. Godís plan never intended for man to be ruled over by his soul and flesh. This is not normal, but abnormal. Jesus tells us plainly that there is no life in the soul and flesh in itself to sustain itself or change itself (John 6:63). He tells us, "It is the Spirit who creates-life, the flesh profits nothing." Godís plan for man was always to be ruled over and sustained by Him by the Holy spirit through manís human spirit. I explain this in great detail in the Chapters of this textbook titled, "The Creation, Constitution & Fall of Man," and "Jesusí Full Salvation for Man."

Genesis teaches that man today is not normal, not what God created him to be, that evil, sin and death in the world are not normal. Again this is the meaning of Jesusí death for manís sin to redeem and deliver him from the effects of sin and death, and from the bondage to his soul and flesh. This is completely incompatible with the teaching of evolution. When you try to mix the teaching of evolution with the teaching of Genesis, you no longer know or understand why man is the way he is, why their is death, evil and destruction in the world. The teaching of Evolution leads to the conclusion that what man is he has always been. If man is normal and what he has always been then Jesusí death for manís sin has no meaning because man is in no need of redemption. The teaching of Genesis concerning man cannot be taken in any other way except literally which is that man is not normal, that sin, death and evil in the world are not normal, that it has not always been this way, that there was a time when sin, death and evil did not exist in the world. When you accept the literal historical teaching of the book of Genesis, then Jesusí coming, death and resurrection for the redemption of man have total meaning and give the answer to the abnormal condition that man is in. Throw away the first three chapters of the Book of Genesis and Jesusí coming, death and resurrection for manís redemption have no meaning because man is normal and in no need of redemption. You cannot mix Evolution with the Book of Genesis. They are completely diametrically opposed and incompatible with one another. Dr. Marvin L. Lubenow in his book Bones of Contention states that the Bible and science cannot be harmonized for the following reasons:

"The Bible claims to be truth in the absolute sense, including its statements about nature. On the other hand, philosophers of science are unanimous in recognizing that science does notóin fact, cannotótraffic in absolute truth. All scientific truth is relative. What strange twist of logic would cause us to think that absolute truth and relative truth can be or should be harmonized? If they could be harmonized, would that not be elevating the relative truth of today to absolute status? Since the average life of a scientific theory is less than twenty years, a harmonization today guarantees a lack of harmony tomorrow. Logic would tell us that a true harmonization cannot take place until Christ returns in glory and all truth is illuminated by the truth of God. Until then, the normal thing to expect is a degree of discord, not harmony [in science]."375/245-246

Through Jesusí absolute proof through His Physical Resurrection from the dead, it is never the Bible that is in error, but our presuppositions and conclusions in science that are in error. It is not the Bible that needs to be brought into harmony with science, but rather science that needs to be brought into harmony with the Word of God. It is science that is always in error and that needs to do further research and learning to find out where it has gone wrong, not the Bible.

Old earth Creationists teach that while the Bible gives us the "who" and the "why" of creation, science tells us the "when" and the "how" of creation." Evangelicals who hold this position teach that the days in Genesis Chapter 1 are long periods of time, billions of years. They teach that rather than it being an account of how God created the earth and the heavens and man in six literal twenty-four hour solar days, instead it is an account of how long it took God to show Moses what was involved in the process of creation. This is ridiculous for many reasons. One, Genesis Chapter 1 makes very plain what kind of a day it is talking about: "And there was evening and there was morning, day one. . . day two. . . day six." Moses makes plain to us that these are twenty-four hour solar days of creation. Moses further confirms that this is what he meant when he wrote in Exodus 20:11,

"For in six days Yehovah made the heavens and the earth, the sea and all that is in them, and rested on the seventh day; therefore Yehovah blessed the seventh day and made it holy."

Again Lubenow writes:

"At the risk of being called simplistic, one cannot imagine how God could have said more clearly that creation in Genesis 1 is event, and does not involve a process.

The setting of this Exodus passage is the Ten Commandments. We are to work six days and rest one day, because God in creation worked six days and rested one day."375/225

Jesusí miracles were not a process, they were instantaneous creations. He instantly healed blind eyes, took five loaves and two fish and instantly multiplied them to feed five thousand people and He instantly raised Lazarus from the dead after being dead for four days. I once prayed for a man whose knees were badly damaged and saw them instantly healed before my eyes. So did he. I do not have a problem believing that Jesus instantly created the earth and the heavens in six twenty-four hour days. And what about at the end of Jesus thousand year reign on earth when Revelation Chapter 21 tells us that He will create a new heavens and a new earth? Does this mean, according to evolution, that we will be standing in space for 20 billion years waiting for it to form?

Jesus said about Himself that He is the Creator and the Resurrection and the life (John Chapters 1 and 11). Paul tells us in 1 Corinthians 15:52 that in the future Jesus will return and instantly, in the twinkling of an eye, resurrect and create new bodies for all believers. These are instant events, not millions of years of time. The context of the Bible itself does not support that these days of creation were long periods of time.

Why do some Christian scholars make this attempt of trying to harmonize the Book of Genesis with Evolution? I believe there are many reasons. One, is that they hope by doing so they will bring many of their fellow scientists to Christ. Rather, though, than it bringing them to Christ, it only further pushes them away from Christ. Trying to mix evolution with the Bible does not strengthen the message of the Bible, it strengthens the position of the evolutionist and only further supports their belief that the Bible is nonsense.

A second reason is for acceptance. They just want to get along with everybody. This seems to be the plague of the Church in America today. They are so busy trying to please our educational system and the government that getting along becomes more important than truth. Getting along becomes more important than the salvation of the individual, because the moment you compromise the message of the Bible you also compromise its message and meaning of salvation. God speaking to Job in Job 36:21 stated, "Be careful, do not turn to evil; For you have preferred this to affliction."

The biggest reasons are land, money, position and prestige. They would rather compromise truth and the Gospel than lose face with the government and non-tax status or a position and a high salary. Why is the Church in America losing the battle of Christianity today? These are the reasons why. James, the half-brother of Jesus, taught in his Epistle of James that making the message of the Bible compatible with the teaching of the world is adulterating the word of God and making oneís self Godís enemy. He wrote,

"You adulteresses, do you not know that friendship with the world is hostility toward God? Therefore whoever wishes to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God." (James 4:4)

Christian ministers are not called of God to get along with the world. They are called to preach the message of the Gospel in truth. Paul wrote in Galatians 1:10,

"For am I now seeking the favor of men, or of God? Or am I striving to please men? If I were still trying to please men, I would not be a bond-servant of Christ."

The Bible teaches plainly that when we stand up for the truth of Godís Word, we will be rejected and persecuted by the world. Peter in fact stated plainly that we are called to this purpose. He wrote in 1 Peter 2:21-23 and 4:1-2,

"For you have been called for this purpose, since Christ also suffered for you, leaving you an example for you to follow in His steps, who committed no sin, nor was any deceit found in His mouth; and while being reviled, He did not revile in return; while suffering, He uttered no threats, but kept entrusting Himself to Him who judges righteously."

"Therefore, since Christ has suffered in the flesh, arm yourselves also with the same purpose, because he who has suffered in the flesh has ceased from sin, so as to live the rest of the time in the flesh no longer for the lusts of men, but for the will of God." (1 Peter 4:1-2)

Personally, when I stand before the throne of God, I would rather be identified with Moses when the writer of Hebrews said of him:

"By faith Moses, when he had grown up, refused to be called the son of Pharaohís daughter; choosing rather to endure ill-treatment with the people of God, than to enjoy the passing pleasures of sin; considering the reproach of Christ greater riches than the treasures of Egypt; for he was looking to the reward." (Hebrews 11:24-26)
