The Time Is Now!

Section 6, Chapter 6

The Foreknowledge Of God

By Dale P. Kruse

Back to Chapter 5, Chapter 7

While walking around the mall one day I came across a man who was visiting from Italy whose name was Yolanzo. I was sharing with him from my Gospel tract titled What Is Eternal Life? On page 7 I talk about some aspects of what the Bible means by repenting of sin. Our conversation went as follows:

Dale: Yolanzo, the Apostle Paul wrote in 1 Corinthians 6:9-10, "Do not be deceived; neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor homosexuals, nor thieves, nor the covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers, shall inherit the kingdom of God." To confess Jesus as Lord means to turn away from these things.

Yolanzo: I thought they decided a homosexual life style was okay now.

Dale: Yolanzo, this is manís teaching, not Godís teaching. Jesus said in Matthew 24:35, "Heaven and earth will pass away, but my Words shall not pass away." God speaking through Malachi in Malachi 3:6 in the Old Testament stated, "For I, the Lord, do not change." And the writer of Hebrews in the New Testament wrote in Hebrews 13:8 about Godís character, "Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today, yes and forever."

God's character is absolute. This means God does not make mistakes. God created us and has stated in His manufactures handbook, the Bible, how we humans are to live and relate to one another. Some scholars try to say that what Paul and the other Apostles wrote in the Bible related to the culture of their day, that it does not relate to our culture today. But what does the Apostle Paul tell us about the moral teachings of the Bible. He writes in 1 Corinthians 14:37-38,

"If anyone thinks he is a prophet or spiritual, let him recognize that the things which I write to you are the Lord's commandment. But if anyone does not recognize this, he is not recognized."

Isaiah put it this way, he said in Isaiah 8:20, To the Law and to the testimony! If they do not speak according to this word, it is because they have no dawn. Jesus put it in even stronger words in Matthew 5:17-19. He said,

"Do not think that I came to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I did not come to abolish, but to fulfill. For truly I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not the smallest letter or stroke shall pass away from the Law, until all is accomplished. Whoever then annuls one of the least of these commandments, and so teaches others, shall be called least in the kingdom of heaven; but whoever keeps and teaches them, he shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven."

I then went on to share with Yolanzo Jesus' death for our sins and His proof of dying for our sins through His Physical Resurrection and how His Resurrection related also to proving that the Bible God's Word is absolutely true truth.

Dale: Yolanzo, even Jesus' disciples had doubts about who Jesus claimed to be, His teachings about being God Himself and the literalness of the Old Testament; but notice what the Bible says about what the Apostles believed after Jesus' resurrection:

John 2:22 "When therefore He was raised from the dead, His disciples remembered that he said this; and they believed the Scripture, and the word which Jesus had spoken."

Even his disciples had doubts about the literalness of what Jesus said about himself, but Jesus' fulfilling His promise to come back from the dead convinced them absolutely that Jesus was who he claimed to be and that His teachings were absolute true truth to base life and society on. The reason we have confusion and chaos in society today is because the west has done away with its original foundation for determining what is true: The Bible. The end result is that we can no longer restrain evil in society because we no longer know what to base our laws of restraint on.

I then went on to share with him how to know Jesus, that he needed to receive Him as Savior and Lord of his life to be saved. I showed him God the Father's promise to us about eternal life recorded by John in 1 John 5:11-12.

Dale: Yolanzo, I do not know how well you know American History, but Harry Truman, a former President of the United States had a plaque on his desk which stated, "The buck stops here." In other words, his word was the last word in his place of authority. Well there is no one higher than God and at his desk, "the buck stops there." It does not matter what man thinks, says or teaches; only what God says will hold up in eternity. John tells us about eternal life,

1 John 5:11-12 "And the witness is this, that God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. He who has the Son has the life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have the life."

Now I am a Pastor, I believe in the importance of Church, but I would never tell one of my parishioners that they will be saved by faithfully attending church. Why? Because God the Father tells us that the only thing which will determine our eternity is not what church we belong to, but by what we do with His Son Jesus Christ.

How do we come to have the Son? By receiving Him as our Savior and Lord according to His invitation in Revelation 3:20 "Behold, I stand at the door and knock; if anyone will hear my voice and open the door, I will come in and will dine with him and he with me." You have to have the Son, know Jesus, in order to have eternal life and to have the Son You have to invite Him into your heart.

Yolanzo: Do you believe in God's foreknowledge, that he already knows everything about us and everything we will ever do?

Dale: Yes.

Yolanzo: Then what is the point? He knows whether we will receive Him or not. Why even try?

Dale: Yolanzo, there is a negative and a positive way of looking at this truth. The positive side of this is that it was because of God's foreknowledge of our sins that he planned and sent Jesus Christ, His only Son, to die on the cross for our sins. The Apostle Peter wrote in 2 Peter 3:9 "Adonai is not slow about His promise (His second coming), as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing for any to perish but for all to come to repentance." God does not want anyone to go to hell. This is why in His foreknowledge He sent Jesus to die for our sins in our place. And for it to be ours all we have to do is believe on Jesus' atoning work. God the Father proved to us He accepted Jesus' atoning work for us by bringing Jesus back from the dead.

The negative side to Godís foreknowledge is that even though God knows how long your life on this earth is, you do not. You do not know how much longer you have to decide whether to accept Jesus as Your savior and Lord or not. You may be dead tonight. Because this is true putting off making this decision is very dangerous. All the more reason you need to make this decision now to receive Jesus as Your Savior and Lord.

With this word Yolanzo told me he had to go, but would think about what I had shared with him. Before he left I gave him two of my books: Understanding Your Salvation in Jesus and The Bible: Godís Word Absolutely. He promised to read them.
