Evangelism:
The Time Is Now!

Section 6, Chapter 11

Repenting of Our Sins Is Necessary

By Greg Hofler

Back to Chapter 10, Chapter 12

While out on the field sharing the Gospel one day, I came across a man I will call Keven.

Greg Hofler (G): Hi! My name is Greg and I am out today taking a survey on this booklet called What Is Eternal Life? and I wondered if I could take ten minutes of your time and get your reaction to it?

Keven (K): Sure!

I then proceeded to share the Salvation Tract completely through up to page 11. We then had the following conversation:

G: Which of these two people best represents your life?

K: Somewhere in between?

G: Which would you like to represent your life?

K: The Christ-Controlled life.

G: Keven, have you ever invited Jesus into your heart before?

K: Yes.

G: How did you first receive Jesus?

K: When I was eight I prayed with my parents and invited Jesus into my heart as Savior and Lord.

G: (Turning to page 13) Keven, Jesus has promised that once we invite Him into our hearts that He will never leave us! Hebrews 13:5 states, "I will never ever desert you, nor will I ever, ever, ever forsake you." Since Jesus promised that once we invited Him in that He would not leave or forsake us, where then would he be right now in relation to You?

K: He is in my heart.

G: Keven, the Bible teaches that to have Jesus in your heart is to have eternal life! 1 John 5:11-13 states,

"And the witness is this, that God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. He who has the Son has the life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have the life."

Keven, since Jesus said that he would not leave or forsake you and since the Father says to have the Son is to have eternal life, even though Jesus may not be currently perfectly Lord of your life, you do have eternal life.

Keven, I have another booklet here titled Jesus Is the Answer to Your Needs which I believe would better minister to Your need. Would you allow me to share it with you?

K: Sure!

I then went through the Forgiveness Tract with him and read the prayer to him on page 9. We then had the following conversation.

G: Would you like to pray this prayer right now and ask Jesus to refill you full of His Holy Spirit and retake control of your life?

K: Yes I would!

G: Then take a minute to silently confess to Jesus any sins you want to confess. When you are done, let me know and we will pray through this prayer together.

Keven took a minute to confess to Jesus his sins.

K: Okay.

I then took Keven through the prayer and then explained to Keven:

G: Keven, no matter how many times in a day you sin, repeat this prayer and you will stay filled with the Holy Spirit and in fellowship with Jesus.

Keven at this point looks a little confused about this.

G: Keven, for example, you are driving down the road and someone in another car cuts you off. Out of your mouth come several choice words. You recognize you have sinned. When you recognize you have sinned, repeat this prayer and then you will be able to stay moment by moment filled with the Holy Spirit and in relationship with Jesus.

K: What about if you get out and punch the guy out!

G: You need to also repent of your sin. Repenting means to turn away from the sin, to not want to do it again. You cannot do this in your own strength. That is why the final step in this Forgiveness Tract is to then pray and ask Jesus for His grace, strength and power to overcome whatever sins of your flesh you are having trouble with by praying this prayer:

Jesus, I confess to You that I cannot overcome my problems in my own strength and power and so by faith pray for Your grace, strength and power to overcome these problems in my flesh. By faith thank You for the answer to these prayers in Your name Jesus, Amen.

As often as you have a problem with your flesh, you need to pray this prayer and ask Jesus for His grace, strength & power to overcome the problems in your flesh.

K: Can I keep these books?

G: Yes you can. My address is on the back. If you have any questions or other needs you need help with, please feel free to write and I will do whatever I can to help you.

K: Thanks!
