Understanding Your Salvation in Jesus

Discipleship Book Related

Dear John:

In this weeks lesson you learned why we cannot save ourselves through our own works and why we must be bornagain to be saved and what that means. You also learned how and why Jesus had to be fully God as well as fully Man and how that is all rapped up in Jesus’ salvation for our sins. You also came to understand Jesus full salvation for Your sins. You also learned why Jesus is our final and only High Priest, that since He will never die, He lives forever to intercede for you and me; and since He will never die, there is no further need of the Levitical Priesthood and thus this is why it was done away with forever and will never be reestablished!

You also learned that Jesus’ salvation for our sins is received through faith and through faith alone. Finally, you learned that now when God the Father looks at you through the blood of Jesus Christ that He sees you as perfect and as holy as His Son Jesus Christ.

John, what was the important of this last weeks reading lesson Understanding Your Salvation in Jesus? The importance of what you read in this book, John, is that it will give you the ability to discern the true Gospel from a false one. John, there are many Christian cults in existence who do not teach the true Gospel. Paul said in Galatians 6:1-8,

"I am amazed that you are so quickly deserting Him who called you by the grace of Christ, for a different gospel; which is really not another; only there are some who are disturbing you, and want to pervert the gospel of Christ. But even though we, or an angel from heaven, should preach to you a gospel contrary to that which we have preached to you, let him be accursed."

John, what defines what is a Christian cult? Who they claim Jesus to be and what they teach about how we are saved. The Bible teaches us that Jesus is the only true God from eternity past, the second person of the Trinity, who in time also took on a full human nature so that today Jesus is fully God and fully man but one person and will remain so forever. A Christian cult is that which deviates from this clear teaching of Scripture. For example, Mormons teach that Jesus was first a man, the by product of Adam having had sex with Mary, who in time evolved into a god. That is just the opposite of what the Bible teaches and a whole lot more. Jehovah Witnesses deny both Jesus’ Divinity and humanity and teach instead that Jesus was Michael the Archangel, just an angel.

The second thing which defines a Christian cult is what they believe and teach about how we are saved. The Bible teaches us plainly that once we confess and repent of our sins that God’s forgiveness and salvation from our sins is receiving by faith through the death and shed blood of Jesus Christ alone. Paul wrote "For we maintain that a man is justified by faith apart from works of the Law" (Romans 3:28). The Apostle Peter wrote in 1 Peter 1:18-19,

"Knowing that you were not redeemed with perishable things like silver or gold from your futile way of life inherited from your forefathers, but with precious blood, as of a lamb unblemished and spotless, the blood of Christ."

We are not saved by works, nor by speaking in tongues, nor by repenting of our sins nor by receiving the Holy Spirit; we are saved by receiving by faith the death and shed blood of Jesus Christ for our sins and by receiving it through faith alone! A Christian cult is anything which deviates from the Bible’s teaching about who Jesus is and His salvation for our sins received through faith alone! Because of the importance of what you read in this last weeks lesson about our salvation in Jesus, I would encourage you to reread it several times.

Finally, John, you learned this week while on this side of heaven we cannot keep from sinning, yet when God the Father looks at us through the blood of Jesus Christ, He sees us currently as holy and as sinless and as perfect as is His Son Jesus Christ. Because this is true, we can go boldly before the throne of grace and cry out "Daddy!" to God without fear and He will receive us with open arms. On this side of heaven we are saved and already seated with Jesus at the right hand of God in heaven positionally (Col 3:1-3), but not until we die and go to be with the Lord and in the resurrection of the physical body will we know our salvation completely and fully experientially in spirit, soul, and body; and in heart, mind and emotion.

You are going to enjoy next weeks’ assignment because it deals with a topic everyone is interested in: Experiencing Jesus’ Love and Forgiveness on a Daily Basis.

Again, please feel free to call if you have any questions or prayer needs.

Until then, your friend in Jesus,

Dale P. Kruse
