Study Questions

When I was a Sophomore in High School Jesus called me to the ministry. After I graduated from High School I enrolled at Fresno Pacific College to major in Contemporary Christian Ministries. After I had been there for a year, my Dad came up to me and said, "Son, it is not that your mother and I do not want you to go into the ministry if that is what you feel called to do. We would just like you to go through a two year degree in a trade of some kind first." I prayed about it and the Lord told me to honor my parents.

I transferred to Fresno City College and eventually enrolled in a two year program in Electronic Technology. I ended up spending four years at Fresno City and finished two degrees while I was there. One in Liberal Arts and one in Electronic Technology.

While I attended Fresno City College, every day I was on campus between classes sharing my faith with students. I learned a lot about God, theology and witnessing and how to relate the Gospel to just about every kind of philosophy and religion there was. But I learned a lot more while I was at City College. I learned how to manage my time. I learned how to get my emotions under control. Jesus knew what it would take to properly prepare me for the ministry and my time at City College helped prepare me for this.

By the time I graduated from Fresno City College, I had been in college for five years. My parents wanted me to go into the service. I got on my knees and prayed, "Jesus, what do you want me to do?" He answered me by bringing me to a passage in Mark 10:29-30,

"Jesus said, ĎTruly I say to you, there is no one who has left house or brothers or sisters or mother or father or children or farms, for My sake and for the Gospelís sake, but that he shall receive a hundred times as much now in the present age,

houses and brothers and sisters and mothers and children and farms, along with persecutions; and in the age to come, eternal life.í"

Jesus said to me, "You have honored your parents. You did what they asked you to do. You can now go on with a clear conscience in the direction I have called you." With that I went on a week fast seeking Jesus as to where he wanted me to go to complete my studies in theology. Four years at Fresno City College had seasoned me. I did not just want to go to school anywhere. I wanted to go to a college that would give me the kind of education I really needed. At the end of the fast Jesus told me He wanted me to go to Oral Roberts University and he also told me what he wanted me to take.

I immediately took steps to enroll at ORU and waited for a response. A couple of months later I got a letter in the mail telling me I was not accepted because my GPA was too low. ORU was turning down 60,000 applications a year at this time, so they had high standards. One of the requirements was a 3.0 GPA. I had a GPA of 2.7.

Believe it or not, I did not respond with depression. I had been in college for five years. I was tired of school. I decided I had missed Godís calling in my life, so my roommate and I went out and bought a pizza to celebrate.

Two weeks went by and one Friday night I came home from work and the Lord said to me, "Go see the movie that just came out, Star Wars." It was a strange command. I found it hard to believe Jesus would tell me to go see a motion picture, but I turned to my roommate and told him what I believed the Lord had just told me. We had wanted to see it, so we decided, even if it wasnít the Lord it was a good idea.

In the movie Star Wars, Darth Vader is looking for an android which ends up in an android farm which is owned by Luke Skywalkerís uncle. When Luke talks to his uncle about the battle between the evil empire and the rebellion, his uncle gives a very passive response. He does not want to get involved in the battle and he does not think Luke should get involved either.

Later, Luke goes chasing after one of his run away androids, R2D2 with CP30 and runs into Obewon Kenobe. Obewon talks to Luke about getting involved in the battle against the evil empire. Luke gives his uncleís passive response. Obewon responds back, "That is your uncle talking."

Later, as they are on their way back to the android farm, they come across a caravan that has been destroyed by the evil empire who were looking for R2D2. Luke realizing that the evil empireís soldiers would end up at his uncleís farm, rushes back to the farm to find his aunt and uncle burned to a crisp and the farm destroyed. Suddenly, Luke realizes that because his uncle did not want to get involved in the battle, he was not prepared for the battle and as a result was over come by the battle.

He realizes there is no middle ground. As a result he decides to become a Jedi Night. As I was watching this, the Holy Spirit said to me, "Dale, if you are not willing to get involved in the battle, you will be overcome by the battle. Why are you giving up so easily?" I understood what He was saying. He really did want me to go to ORU and he did not want me to give up until the battle was won. To make a long story short, I did finally get myself into ORU and did complete the education there Jesus called me to complete.

Why have I just told you this story? Because the battle is not over. There are still millions of men and woman who do not know Jesus. Brothers and sisters, there is no middle ground. Jesus said in Matthew 12:30, "He who is not with Me is against Me; and he who does not gather with Me scatters." That pretty well sums up Christian Laymenís response to me when I talk to them about getting involved in an Evangelism Training Class and doing aggressive Evangelism. They scatter and disappear. But Jesus said there is no middle ground. You are either with Him in His purpose of reaching the lost, the scattered, and the hurting, or Jesus says you are against him. Actually, it is not Jesus that passive Christians are against, they are against their fellow men and women who are lost and destined for Hell.

There is a lot of talk about Godís judgment coming to America. I believe it. The Lord has plainly revealed and confirmed this to me personally many times. However, despite all the prophets preaching this message, I know of none that are in light of this belief encouraging Christians to get out and preach the message of the Gospel all the more. Like Jonah we can hardly wait until it comes so the scuds can get what they deserve. Is this Godís attitude? If God brings judgment upon a nation, it is because he has no other recourse because the plague of that nation will pass on to all the other nations. God did not want to judge Nineveh, but they were at a place of apostasy and sin that unless they repented, He had no other recourse, so he sent Jonah as a last resort to try and turn them around. Unfortunately, we Christians like Jonah would rather see America judged and burned. Judgment for America means eternal hell for millions. Is that what we want? As long as America is alive, it is never to late. God does not want to judge America, but if Christians donít let go of the world and go out and start calling men and women in America to repentance, God wonít have any other alternative because Americaís plague is spreading to all the other nations of the world.

America is in the condition it is in because there is no knowledge of the word of God. There is no other way they are going to get that knowledge except when we go out and share the Gospel with them. Since I was sixteen, thirty-four years ago, all my free time has been committed to one thing and one thing only: going out and sharing the love of Jesus Christ with men. That is Godís will and desire for the church. Why? Because He takes no pleasure in the death of the wicked.

"ĎAs I live!í declares Adonai-Yehovah, ĎI take no pleasure in the death of the wicked, but rather that the wicked turn from his way and live. Turn back, turn back from your evil ways! Why then will you die, O house of Israel?í" (Ezekiel 33:11)

Jesus further tells us that if we do not get involved in this battle of the souls of men we will be overcome by the battle. Jesus said, "Any kingdom divided against itself is laid waste; and a house divided against itself falls." (Luke 11:17). We will be overcome by the things of this life, by the security of jobs, by the worries and the riches of this life. Christians will not get involved in Evangelism for the same reason America is coming under Godís judgment: because things, jobs, new cars and security in this life is more important to Christianís then the fact that men without Christ will go to an eternal hell forever.

"Therefore put to death your members that are on earth to fornication, uncleanness, passion, evil lust, and covetousness which is idolatry. For it is on account of these things that the wrath of God will come." (Colossians 3:5-6)

God is going to judge America and Christians for that and because the lost are killing their infants because things are more important than human life. Who is the worse devil? The Lost who kill babies that go to heaven or Christians who refuse to give their lives to preaching the Gospel for things and as a result send their fellow men ignorantly to hell for ever? Christians! Our home and things are in heaven!

To stay involved in the battle you must stay involved in the battle. Only those who stay involved in the battle will keep their priorities of life straight and stay involved in the battle. This is what Jesus was talking about when he said you cannot serve God and man. You cannot have one foot in the world and be true to Jesus at the same time. Either your allegiance is to Him or it is not. There is no middle ground in the economy of Godís kingdom.

What happens to Christians and Churches whose main focus is not Evangelism? They focus instead on non-fruitful doctrines and sit around convincing themselves and each other that they are better than those guys over at the other church.

What happens to Christians and Churches whose focus is Evangelism? Their concerns and priorities become, "Jesus, please show me how to help this man and woman see that you are the answer to their needs." "Jesus, please show me what your Word teaches on this subject that is blocking this man and woman from releasing their faith in You." Instead of your focus being some issue or doctrine to convince other Christians you are better than them, instead your focus is "Jesus, what can I do or say that will release this personís faith in You so he or she will give her life to You?" Adoniram Judson, who had been a missionary to Burma in the 1800's, wrote that if you become weary of preaching the Gospel:

"Satan will sympathize with you in the matter and he will present some chapel of ease in which to officiate in your native tongue, some government situation, some professorship or editorship, some literary or scientific pursuit, some supernumerary translation, or, at least, some system of schools; anything in a word, that will help you without much surrender of character to slip out of real missionary [Evangelistic] work."64/78

Love is an act of the will. Sometimes when I talk with Laymen about getting involved in aggressive Evangelism, they will say something like, "I do not feel led of Jesus to do so." It is a decision of the will, a decision of love, to get involved in the battle of Evangelism. The Holy Spirit is saddened and grieved by the lack of initiative of His people to reach out to lost and condemned humanity. Jesus tells us in His word that he will not strive with us forever. He gave us a free will and He will eventually back off and leave us to our own desires, but why must He have to strive with us at all?

Why brothers and sisters does Jesus have to strive with you? Men and women ARE going to hell forever. Only you and I have the power to try and prevent that. What does the Bible say about living for ourselves and focusing on ourselves? The Apostle Paul writes,

"Brethren, join in following my example, and observe those who walk according to the pattern you have in us. For many walk, of whom I often told you, and now tell you even weeping, that they are enemies of the cross of Christ, whose end is destruction, whose god is their appetite, and whose glory is in their shame, who set their minds on earthly things. For our citizenship is in heaven, from which also we eagerly wait for a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ." (Phil 3:17-20).

This earth is not our destiny. Heaven is. When you get to heaven, then you can have your Porsch, houses, jewelry, vacations around the universe. But right now Jesus needs your help desperately to reach men and women with the saving message of the Gospel so that their eternity can also be heaven instead of the eternal lake of fire. This life is temporary. When You finish this school of Evangelism, donít stop going out and sharing Your faith with the lost hurting and scattered. Commit yourself for life to spend a minimum of two hours a week out on the field.

Pastor Richard Wurmbrand was a Jew before he became a Christian who suffered as a Jew in prison during the second world war. After reading the New Testament and being strangely drawn to Christ, Pastor Wurmbrand said to Jesus, "Youíll never have me for a disciple, I want money, travel, pleasure. I have suffered enough. Yours is the way of the Cross, and even if it is the way of truth as well, I wonít follow it." Jesusí answer came back to him in the form of a plea: "Come my way! Do not fear the Cross! You will find that it is the greatest of joys."65/13
