Evangelism:
The Time Is Now!

Section 1, Chapter 11

The Most Loving Thing You Can Do!

Chapter Illustration
Video Presentation

Read through the Evangelism Tract
Back to chapter 10

The following is a presentation of my tract on the importance of Evangelism titled, The Most Loving Thing You Can Do! It is also extra information not given in the tract about the importance of Evangelism that will help you better understand the message of this tract and also show you how to respond to arguments you will encounter on the field in presenting this tract.

The reason why sharing the Love of Jesus Christ with others is the most loving thing You can do is because the only way a person can get to heaven is by what they do with Jesus. I am a Pastor. Church is important. Teaching Sunday school is important. Committees are necessary, but all church activity is secondary in importance to sharing the love of Jesus Christ with man, because only what a person does with Jesus will determine whether they are saved. You will never have the perfect church in this life. You will never have perfect knowledge and theology in this life. We need to strive to have right knowledge based on the word of God, but all these things are secondary to the importance of sharing the love of Jesus Christ with men. This is because having a perfect theology does not save men or bring them into the kingdom. Only sharing the love of Jesus Christ with men brings them to salvation and brings them into the kingdom of God.

What am I saying here? Am I saying stop building your church, stop teaching Sunday School, stop striving for the truth, stop having necessary committee meetings? No. What I am saying is that the Churchís first responsibility and your first responsibility as a Christian is to plan and take time in your week to do aggressive evangelism, to reach out to the lost and hurting with the message of Jesusí love and forgiveness. This is the answer to our countryís ills, not more laws, not more gun control laws, not better politicians, but God consciousness, consciousness of Godís moral laws and salvation through Jesus Christ. There is only one way America gains this knowledge: when we as Christians take time in our weeks to go out and share Jesusí love and forgiveness aggressively with lost humanity.

Evangelism must be on the top of priorities in any Church planning and activities. This must come first before all other church activities because men without Jesus will not go to heaven, not men without Sunday school. Make sure you first have time for Evangelism, then yes Pastor, teach Sunday school and have committee meetings. The Apostle John recorded in Revelation 19:10 "For the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy." Evangelism is Jesusí first concern and the Holy Spiritís first concern. If what you are doing and planning to do in your Church does not include aggressive Evangelism, the Holy Spirit has nothing to do with it.

Some people will argue that the reason they will not get involved in Evangelism right now is because of present problems they have in their life, that for them to go out and share the Gospel right now would not be a good witness. What do they mean by a good witness? Are men saved by what they presently are or by what they do with Jesus? The Gospel is not what You are but what Jesus is and has done for us. Jesus is the answer to menís needs, not you. Sharing the Gospel is not sharing that you are the answer to their needs. Sharing the Gospel is explaining to people that Jesus Christ of Nazareth is the answer to their needs.

Unfortunately in this life we will always have problems. The Apostle Paul said in Acts 14:22, "Through many tribulations we must enter the kingdom of God." There is nothing in the Bible which indicates that we will come to a point in this life when we will not have problems.

What does Jesus say is the solution to our problems. It is recorded in the Gospel of Luke 6:38:

"Give, and it will be given to you; good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over, they will pour into your lap. For by your standard of measure it will be measured to you in return."

Jesus tells us in this passage that the answer to our needs is to give. Do You have problems? What is the solution to Your needs. Jesus says GIVE! and it will be given to you. The greatest gift you can give anyone is the love of Jesus Christ through the Gospel. The greatest gift you can give God and Man is using your free time in the week to share the love of Jesus Christ with others. Jesus said Give, and it will be given to you.

The most important thing in this life is not solving all our problems. When we die or the rapture occurs, in heaven all our problems will be solved, there will be no bills to pay, but in heaven all opportunity to share the love of Jesus Christ with others will forever be lost because in heaven there are no lost people.

Years ago as a young person (I am 59 at this writing) when I was involved with a certain Evangelistic organization, I had many Christian associates I could go out and share the love of Jesus Christ with. As the years went on more and more of these people stopped sharing the Gospel. They became too busy with family, job and church. This organization rightly taught that we are to go out two by two, but after a few years there was no one who wanted to go out and share the Gospel with me. I came to realize if I depended on having a partner, I would never go out and share the Gospel with others either. Everyone had excuses: "It is not my gift." "I am involved in teaching Sunday school." "My family requires too much of my time right now." I had to make a decision: was I going to obey the Lord whether I had a partner or not? I decided to obey the Lord.

Page 1

Another excuse I often hear is finances. "As soon as I get my life together, get out of debt, or at least get caught up with my bills, then I will go out and share the love of Jesus Christ with men." Whether you are in debt or out of debt does not save you or determine that you will go to heaven. Your accepting Jesus as your Savior and Lord Saved you, nothing else. Whether you are in debt or out of debt will not save anyone else either. The only way lost humanity comes to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ is when we commit ourselves to go out and share the love of Jesus Christ with men. What they then do with the message of the Gospel that they now have heard is what will save them, not whether you have your life together financially and practically. I struggled over this issue years ago, but as time went on I found I was always having financial problems. I came to realize Satan was behind it and that if I waited until I was rich or at least well off, I would never go out and share the love of Jesus Christ with men. I then decided I would not allow my finances to keep me from sharing the Love of Jesus Christ with others.

Page 2

What are your excuses? What is Satan using to keep you from sharing the Gospel? Whatever it is, it is not an excuse because the only thing which saves you or any one else is not whether you have or do not have problems, but by what they do with Jesus Christ.

This is why the Bible teaches that to win souls is wise, not solve all your problems. It is a matter of obedience to Jesus, it is a matter of love for Your fellow men and women. You will always have problems on this side of Heaven, but only what a person does with Jesus will get them into Heaven. For this reason, your taking time in your week to go out and share the love of Jesus Christ with others is the most important thing you can do and the most important activity to first schedule in your week.

"Yes, but Dale you hit the nail on the head. If I go out and share Jesus with others, I will be attacked by Satan, my finances will be attacked, my Christian friends will disassociate themselves from me."

Yes you will experience these things, you will experience hardships. Satan will do all he can to discourage you from doing this most loving thing, but as Christians this is what Jesus has called us to. The Apostle Peter wrote,

Page 3

1 Peter 2:21-23 "For you have been called for this purpose, since Christ also suffered for you, leaving you an example for you to follow in His steps, who committed no sin, nor was any deceit found in His mouth; and while being reviled, He did not revile in return; while suffering, He uttered no threats, but kept entrusting Himself to Him who judges righteously."

1 Peter 4:1-2 "Therefore, since Christ has suffered in the flesh, arm yourselves also with the same purpose, because he who has suffered in the flesh has ceased from sin, so as to live the rest of the time in the flesh no longer for the lusts of men, but for the will of God."

Peter explains to us plainly that we are called with the same purpose that Jesus was called to. Jesus came to seek and to save the lost. He tells us in John 20:21 "As the Father has sent Me, I also send you." As Christians we also are called to seek and to save the lost. This means upholding what is true regardless of the cost to ourselves just as Jesus did. How else can we convince unbelievers that Heaven and Hell are real if they donít see by example our putting supreme value not on this life but only on the life to come. If Jesus had not convinced us by His example, even to the point of death upholding His claims, we never would have believed or turned to Him. It was His faithfulness of His claims to death that convinced us that what He said is true truth. There is no such thing as a safe and costless Christianity when it comes to sharing the message of the Gospel, but neither will men believe and turn to Christ until they see that we so believe what we profess that in order to uphold that confession we are willing to suffer the loss of all things, even the freedom of our time on Saturday and Sunday afternoons in order to bring Jesusí message of love and forgiveness to them. Our very act of doing this is a testimony to them of the truth we share.

Page 4

To take the selfish course is unthinkable in the economy of heaven, first of all because the Bible states very plainly that this is the only reason we as Christians are still here. Our home is heaven, not this earth. Jesus has not left us here to chase after things and inheritances and to accumulate the things of the world. That is not why He has left us here. He has left us here as soldiers to carry the message of His love and forgiveness to as many people as will listen and believe. If we choose the selfish course, to make the world our home, what are we saying to the lost? We are saying "Donít turn to Christ, our message is not true. This life is all there is so you better grab onto all you can while you can, because when you die, it is all over!" Unbelievers donít just hear our words, they hear our lives and what we are willing to sacrifice to bring them the message of Jesusí love and forgiveness.

Page 5

This really is the crux of the issue. The reason why Christians donít involve themselves in Evangelism is because they wonít be popular or be able to get good jobs and large salaries and buy the worldís toys. They wonít be able to buy new cars. They wonít be popular with their fellow Christians. Jesus said,

Matt 16:25-26 "For whoever wishes to save his soul shall lose it; but whoever loses his soul for My sake shall find it. For what will a man be profited, if he gains the whole world, and forfeits his soul? Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul?"

Page 6

This is also why spiritual leaders in our country are not upholding the literal teaching of Scripture. They are mixing the Bible with the teaching of evolution because to uphold a literal Bible is to be laughed at and ridiculed. If they teach that Genesis is literally true, they wonít be able to get the support they want for their "world ministries," they wonít be able to succeed or have the acceptance of men. This is something I have never understood. Many of my associates donít understand why I am not willing to give in to some of these things. I explain to them in response,

"God did not call me to be popular or successful, but to share the truth of the Gospel. He did not call me to be popular but to be His spokesman, to preach the truth regardless of the consequences to myself."

God said to Jeremiah after complaining about his lack of success and popularity with men,

Jeremiah 15:19-20 "Therefore, thus says Yehovah, ĎIf you return, then I will restore youóBefore Me you will stand; And if you extract the precious from the worthless, You will become My spokesman. They for their part may turn to you, But as for you, you must not turn to them. Then I will make you to this people a fortified wall of bronze; and though they fight against you, they will not prevail over you; for I am with you to save you and deliver you,í declares Yehovah."

Who are the "they" God was talking about? Jeremiahís fellow believers in Yehovah.

Those who compromise the literal teaching of Scripture for the sake of success and money and popularity are no longer serving Jesus, but their own selfish self-centered interests, not those of Jesus Christ. The Apostle Paul wrote,

Page 7

Galatians 1:10 "For am I now seeking the favor of men, or of God? Or am I striving to please men? If I were still trying to please men, I would not be a bond-servant of Christ."

For those Christians who choose the world and for those spiritual leaders who sell out the word of God for the sake of money, acceptance and success, the Apostle Paul has a message for you,

Philippians 3:18-20 "For many walk of whom I often told you, and now tell you even weeping, that they are enemies of the cross of Christ, whose end is destruction, whose god is their appetite, and whose glory is in their shame, who set their minds on earthly things. For our citizenship is in heaven, from which also we eagerly wait for a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ."

Page 8

But for those Christians who believe Godís Word, that heaven is more real than this earth and as a result give Jesus their free time for the sharing of the Gospel with men, what does God promise for them because of their faithfulness to Him and His Word and their faithfulness in their use of their free time to share the Gospel with men? Jesus said,

Mark 10:29-30 "Truly I say to you, there is no one who has left house or brothers or sisters or mother or father or children or farms, for My sake and for the gospelís sake, but that he shall receive a hundred times as much now in the present age, houses and brothers and sisters and mothers and children and farms, along with persecutions; and in the age to come, eternal life."

Page 9

If you havenít given your free time to share the Gospel with others, you are saying to Christians and to the lost that these words of Jesus are a lie. If you are giving Your life to the preaching of the Gospel, you are telling your fellow Christians and the lost that these words of Jesus are true. This is what James was talking about in the book of James when he wrote,

James 2:17-18 "Even so faith, if it has no works, is dead, being by itself. But someone may well say, ĎYou have faith, and I have works: show me your faith without the works, and I will show you my faith by my works.í"

What does it mean to Preach the Gospel? Does it mean going out and grabbing people by the collar and trying to force them to listen to and respond to the message of the Gospel? No. Preaching the Gospel is simply explaining to a person what it means to be a Christian and how to become one. If you accomplish that, you have had a successful time of Evangelism whether the person receives Jesus Christ or not. Why? Because then when he or she is ready to receive Jesus Christ, they will then know what to do.

If You remember from Chapter 2 of this section we shared about what are the three ingredients of Christian Conversion:

  1. The Word of God.

  2. The Work of the Holy Spirit.

  3. And the will of the individual.

I am a Charismatic Christian and what this textbook and the Advanced Textbook is all about is the work of the Holy Spirit in our lives and how to walk, be filled and Baptized in the Holy Spirit and operate in the gifts of the Holy Spirit; but often times Christians are confused about what it means to be led of the Holy Spirit and how this relates to Evangelism. When a Christian tells me he believes in being led of the Holy Spirit in Evangelism, I explain to him that the Holy Spirit leads us by what we know and that, that is the reason Jesus wants us to make a decision to take time in our weeks to go out and share the Word of God with lost humanity; that, that is our part in Evangelism, sharing the word of God with men. Once we have done this, the Holy Spirit is then free to do His work which is to convict, quicken, bring to remembrance and convince the hearer of the truthfulness of the message and his or her need to receive Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord.

Page 10

When in obedience to Jesus Word we go out and share the Love of Jesus Christ with others, we are walking in obedience to God and the leading of His Holy Spirit, for the Holy Spirit inspired the writers of the Bible to encourage Christians to go out and share the love of Jesus Christ with others. The Apostle Peter wrote,

2 Peter 1:20-21 "But know this first of all, that no prophecy of scripture is a matter of oneís-own authority-to-loose to-cause-to-come-into-existence, for no prophecy was-ever brought-forth by the will of man, but being-brought-forth by the Holy Spirit, men of God spoke."

When we Obey Jesusí commands to us in His Word, we are being led of the Holy Spirit and walking in the Holy Spirit.

Page 11

Often times Christians will not get involved in Evangelism unless they can be guaranteed immediate results. But as we can see from the discussion above there is a lot more involved to bringing a person to Christ than just sharing the simple Gospel and praying with them to receive Jesus Christ as their Savior and Lord. There is planting the seed, watering, fertilizing, weeding and then at the end of the season, the harvest comes.

Page 12

Often times on the field when sharing the Evangelism Tract with Christians, I will run into someone who will tell me that he believes in predestination (Basic Section 5, Chapter 5), that God has already determined those who will be saved and those who will be lost, that there doing anything about it evangelistically will make no difference concerning the outcome. How do I respond to this? I explain to them what the Apostle John tells us knowing Jesus means. The Apostle John wrote in 1 John 2:3-4,

"By this we know that we have come to know Him, if we keep His commandments. The one who says, ĎI have come to know Him,í and does not keep His commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him."

I then say to them,

"Whether you believe in predestination or not is irrelevant. Jesus tells us in His word that to know him is to obey Him. He commands you to go out and share the Gospel with men. He also says in His Word that if you do not obey Him, you do not know Him, that you are a liar and that the truth is not in you. You must be one of those people destined to go to hell!"

We are saved by faith as we shared clearly in & of this Section and as we covered extensively in Chapter 10 of Section 3 of the Basic Textbook, but John tells us that one of the evidences of a person being truly past tense saved is his obedience to Jesusí commands. Whether you believe in predestination or not is irrelevant. What is relevant is that if you claim to know Jesus but do not obey Him, Godís Word states that you are a liar. A person who is saved does not look for reasons not to obey Jesus, he loves Jesus and wants to obey Him. If you say you are a Christian and a predestinationist and argue against obeying Jesus, I can only conclude that you are a liar, that you are not saved. What I need to do then is share the What Is Eternal Life? with you.

We are never wasting our time when we are sharing the word of God. Godís Word is SPIRITUALLY-ALIVE. As soon as a person hears the Word of God, it goes to work immediately in his heart. But before there is a harvest the seed must grow, be nurtured. This is why we must never get discouraged when sharing the Gospel regardless of the immediate visible results, you are bearing fruit in your efforts.

Page 13

It is not just unbelievers that need to hear the Gospel, believers need to hear the Gospel also. There are many Christian cults and many lies of Satan that he uses against Godís people to lead them astray and to oppress them. When a Christian has been deceived he is not aware of it. How can he or she be brought back to reality? When we come to their doors and share Jesus with them and the subjects come up, we are then able to point out to them the truths of Godís Word. The truth of Godís Word is what frees us of our bondages and is what releases faith in those who do not know Jesus.

Because I have consistently weekly shared the Gospel for forty-three years, I can tell you that on the average for me about one out of every sixteen people I talk to receives Jesus Christ as their Savior and Lord. At more fruitful times one out of three.

Page 14

A couple of years ago I was sharing the Gospel daily on college campuses in Fresno, California. One fall semester I can honestly say I brought at least one person a week to Salvation in Jesus Christ. Then one weekend while having my quiet time, the Lord spoke to me in my heart and told me it was time for a harvest. The next six people I shared the Gospel with received Jesus Christ. I had sowed seed, watered, fertilized, weeded and at the end of the season the harvest. This sowing and farming time lasted six months before I had a harvest.

Page 15

Jesus needs every one who claims to be a follower of Him to put in weekly time on the field sharing the Gospel. If America is turning away from God, it is not because God is turning away from America. America is turning away from God because there is a vacuum of the Word of God in society. No amount of legislation, police and armies can change peopleís lives and put restraint on society. Only Godís Word with the quickening convicting work of the Holy Spirit can change peopleís lives.

Man without Christ is already dead. If society is decaying and becoming more immoral, it is an indication of the lessening of the work of the people of God in weekly Evangelism spreading God's word, not the increase of decay in society. This is because the Word of God is the Sword of the Holy Spirit by which He convicts men of their sins and need of salvation through Jesus Christ. After the Apostle Paul explained that Salvation is received by faith through believing God's promises concerning Jesus Christ, he then asks why God then gave us the law? He explains:

Galatians 3:19 "Why the Law then? It was added because of transgressions, having been ordained through angels by the agency of a mediator, until the seed should come to whom the promise had been made."

The Law saves no one, but it does put restraint on the potential of evil of a personís heart. Solomon wrote in Ecclesiastes 8:11,

"Because the sentence against an evil deed is not executed quickly, therefore the hearts of the sons of men among them are given fully to do evil."

Paul wrote in Philippians 3:18-20,

"For many walk of whom I often told you, and now tell you even weeping, that they are enemies of the cross of Christ, whose end is destruction, whose god is their appetite, and whose glory is in their shame, who set their minds on earthly things. For our citizenship is in heaven, from which also we eagerly wait for a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ."

The Apostle Paul tells us that for a Christian to chase after the world is to make him or herself an enemy of Jesus Christ. Why? Because our citizenship is not here, but in heaven. Once we have turned to Jesus and given our lives to Him, he leaves us on this earth not to pursue after and gain the world, but to do whatever we can with the resources we have to bring others to Jesus Christ. Our citizenship is no longer on this earth. it is in heaven. Our home is not here, our home is in heaven. Heaven is where our heart and investments need to be, not on this earth. Once you receive Christ you are automatically put in His army and your place of service becomes planet earth. We are at war. Men and women are destined for hell and our orders are to do whatever is necessary, even to the loss of all material things and to the giving of our lives if called to, to bring others to Jesus Christ. For this reason Paul wrote in Colossians 3:1-3,

"If then you have been raised up with Christ, keep seeking the things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your mind on the things above, not on the things that are on earth. For you have died and your life is hidden with Christ in God."

Jesus said about giving of our time to share the gospel,

Mark 10:29-30 "Truly I say to you, there is no one who has left house or brothers or sisters or mother or father or children or farms, for My sake and for the gospelís sake, but that he shall receive a hundred times as much now in the present age, houses and brothers and sisters and mothers and children and farms, along with persecutions; and in the age to come, eternal life."

Jesus promises us in this passage that if we give of our free time to Him to share Him with others that He will give us one-hundred times more than we could accumulate for ourselves through our own efforts. In light of these promises, to not give of ourselves to Jesus in this way is unbelief; it is telling Jesus that He is not good, that He does not love us and that His promises are not true. Jesus tells us in Matthew 6:33 "Seek-continually first His kingdom and His righteousness; and all these things shall be added to you"

Your goal in presenting this Evangelism Tract is the same as in sharing the Salvation Tract which is to motivate the Christian to make a prayer of commitment to Jesus to use his or her life to share Jesus with others. Therefore, when you get to the last page, you want to say to them: "Would you like to pray right now and commit Your free time to Jesus to share His love and forgiveness with others?" If they say they would, then pray the prayer on page 13 with them.

After they pray introduce to them this Evangelism Training Program. Give them a copy of Why ALL Christians Need TRAINING in EVANGELISM or the Discipleship Book How to Bring a Person to Saving Faith in Jesus Christ. Also give them the DVDs Evangelism: the Time Is Now! and Evangelism Training Package. If this training program is being given in your area, bring this also to their attention.

If they are not ready to commit their free time to Evangelism, then say to them, "When you are ready to make this commitment, the following is a suggested prayer. . ."; then read the prayer to them. When you are done, thank them for their time and leave a copy of the Evangelism Tract with them so they can read and study it for themselves later. You also want to give them a copy of Why ALL Christians Need TRAINING in EVANGELISM or the Discipleship Book How to Bring a Person to Saving Faith in Jesus Christ. These books explain the importance of their involvement in Evangelism and training in Evangelism, and again introduce the value of this Evangelism Training Program.
